Being Equipped for the Call of the Pen
The “Call of the Pen” is not a 21st Century concept. From the beginning of time men have been chronicling the acts of God and man’s relationship with Him. As Christian authors, called according to God’s purpose, whether it’s to give testament of His personality, share present-day miracles, or fulfill our calling to compel mankind to follow Christ, we must be equipped to do so. If you are called to the marketplace ministry of being a writer as a career, you still have the mandate of serving your clients, readership, and those who are in positions of authority over you in excellence. Just as if God was peering over your shoulder, making sure you were completing a heavenly task. That’s where authorpreneurship comes into play.
Traditionally writers and authors have followed the dictates of the literary industry and often got lost on the designated professional pathways that defined career success. But these pathways may not have lended themselves to a righteous cause or fostered the call that God had on their lives for ministry in the marketplace. Historically, the plans of man have often been in conflict with the will of God. True success is embedded in the dictates of a righteous God who desires your success in life, more than anything else. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” So the main premise throughout this book is God’s unchangeable plan for your success and equipping you for the “Call of the Pen,” whether it’s in ministry or the marketplace.
How Does Authorpreneurship Fit into the Picture?
Discipleship is defined by Merriam Webster as “one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another.” As a disciple of Christ you are a living example of His doctrine and everything you do represents His excellence. Being equipped for your modern day calling as an author requires that you be permeated with all that is Christ. You were born, selected to fulfill your call and required to surrender to the training process. Mastering your craft may require that you be a life-long learner.
Over the last twenty years we have seen the literary industry experience a major paradigm shift that totally shook up the status-quo. Believe it or not, God was not surprised. Being the Alpha and Omega, nothing catches Him by surprise. Just like He had a remnant of believers when Elijah had his breakdown after he battled Jezebel (1 Kings 19), he has a training program for the 21st Century author. It’s called authorpreneurship!
